An expressive small-format piece showcasing soft, textural layers of watercolor and gouache. This painting captures the ethereal quality of rain rolling over the Mediterranean coastline, utilizing a palette of washed-out Prussian blue, dusty rose, and slate grey. I love a storm. It somehow calms me and makes me feel cozy and free. The poem I wrote below further explains what I was thinking when I painted this piece.

Rain, rain stay a day

August is too steamy to dream.

I burned the soles

of my feet through my 

leather sandals yesterday.

The heat reinforced the brilliance of a two o’clock siesta.

Boom! 

The deep Prussian blue-grey sky roared thick with thunder

as rippled veins flashed 

across the flatlands I call home.

The angry canopy beckons me, and I rejoice in the magnitude 

of something that can 

never be controlled. 

She leans in and whispers,

“Let go”.

When I do, 

the waters calm,

the horizon clears, and

freedom flourishes.
